Your toddler got sick again? A child's fever cannot be ignored under any circumstances! Measuring temperature is a very simple activity, but do you really know how to do it correctly? Fever, i.e. elevated body temperature, appears at 38⁰C and is usually a reaction to infection in a child. Every parent should know exactly where the temperature should be measured, and should know how to lower it in an effective way. We will guide you through this stage!
In children, fever can be measured in four places: in the mouth, armpit, ear and anus. For each of these places, body temperature rises, see how:
Measurement in the mouth is intended only for children older than 5 years. This is a method with which special care must be taken, therefore it is not used in younger children. The thermometer must be kept in one place without movement, being careful not to bite the thermometer too much.
Measurement under the armpit, contrary to all beliefs, gives the least measurement of body temperature. To get a good result, which reflects the actual state, you must remember to dry the armpit earlier and firmly stick the body to the thermometer.
Ear measurement is intended for children over 3 years of age. This is one of the easier methods of measuring temperature, but you must remember that earwax in your ears can cause an unreliable degree.
Measurement through the anus is a method for children under 3 years of age, i.e. for babies who are not yet able to work with parents. To measure the temperature in this way, it will be best if you put the baby on his bacon or on his back and with one hand you open the oily thermometer.
We guess that a child's fever is a great stress for parents who are lost in what to do in a given situation. We have prepared several proven methods for concerned parents to help reduce fever in a child:
The child's temperature should be measured using appropriate equipment. Mercury thermometers have long since expired, although we are aware that in some homes they are still located. In turn, electric thermometers have long conquered the Polish market, thanks to safe work with it and speed of temperature reading. Electric thermometers read the temperature in 10 seconds, when an ordinary thermometer does it for a few minutes, while creating the danger of dangerous mercury escaping.
Ear and head thermometers are equally popular on the market, but they are not accurate in their measurements due to several important factors. Ear thermometers have the best accuracy in terms of body temperature, but its disadvantage is that you need to be very careful when measuring so as not to damage the child's ear canal. On the other hand, the head thermometers are comfortable to use and we won't hurt the child with them, but the temperature measurement can be significantly underestimated due to the temperature measurement from outside the child's body.
Remember not to ignore the child's fever in any way and if possible, go to a pediatrician as soon as possible!
